Job Description

My client is seeking a Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting and financial reporting activities related to housing programs, grant funding, and ongoing construction projects. This role focuses on maintaining accurate financial records, supporting compliance requirements, and assisting with monthly and annual reporting.

The Staff Accountant will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure financial activity is properly tracked, reconciled, and reported in accordance with GAAP and applicable funding guidelines.

Responsibilities

General & Housing Program Accounting

  • Perform budget-to-actual analysis and assist with financial reviews
  • Support compliance monitoring related to housing programs and internal controls
  • Assist with preparation of annual property-level budgets
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and supporting schedules
  • Participate in month-end and year-end close activities
  • Assist with audit and tax preparation support as needed
  • Prepare routine financial reports for internal and external use

Grant & Program Reporting

  • Reconcile grant funding and related expenses
  • Assist with preparation and submission of funding requests
  • Support monthly and annual program reporting
  • Provide financial support to program staff and respond to reporting inquiries

Construction & Capital Projects

  • Track financial activity for projects under construction
  • Monitor spending against approved budgets
  • Assist with preparation of project draw requests
  • Support reconciliation of construction-related accounts at year-end

Compensation & Schedule

  • Hourly pay starting in the low-to-mid $30s, with flexibility based on experience
  • Full-time, non-exempt position, 40 hours per week
  • Monday-Friday, in-office

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field (near-completion considered)
  • At least two years of accounting or related experience
  • Exposure to government, nonprofit, housing, or property accounting preferred
  • CPA or CPA-track a plus

Skills & Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of GAAP and general accounting practices
  • Experience with reconciliations and financial reporting
  • Familiarity with grant or compliance-based accounting preferred
  • Strong Excel and basic office software skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
